CFN Volunteers

True to CFN’s co-operative roots, its strength is in the willingness of its members to share their talents, time and beyond.  The Concord Family Network does not have paid staff to offer the many benefits that it offers members.  Its success depends on the dedication and support of members who volunteer their time.  To continue the success of this valuable community resource, we encourage all members to volunteer some of their time.  Although program/benefit coordinators are needed, we also have a variety of very small (but very important!), discrete volunteer assignments throughout the year that would not require much of your time (e.g., buying paper plates or helping with event set-up/clean-up).  To learn more about how you can help out, please read below or contact our chairs at concordfamilyntwk@yahoo.com.  Every helping hand counts!

We need your help!  Immediate Volunteer Needs:

Chair an Event:  Partner with a friend, or go solo and meet someone new who'll help you create a fun day!

  • Summer – popsicle party

  • Fall – fire truck wash, Halloween party

  • Winter – holiday party, Valentine's party

  • Spring – egg hunt, new baby brunch, ice cream social* (*we need help with this one now!)

We can work with your schedule to set dates, can recycle left-over products, and – most important – have years-past templates that can be used to make planning and recruiting a snap!

Coordinate a Program:  Many of these are established and simply need a point-person to keep them humming...

  • Dads Programs (Dad & Me Outings, Dad's Night Out)

  • 5+ Year Old Events

  • Story/Craft Hour

  • Winter Play Space

Join the Board...

Junior Co-chair:  Work with veteran co-chair to:

  • Oversee CFN Programs with help of coordinators

  • Participate in Board meetings (every 6 weeks), as schedule permits

  • Engage in joint communications with current co-chair (a great sounding board and resource!)

  • Help monitor CFN email inbox, working with Board/program reps.

If time is your concern, this role can be shared with another candidate, giving you 2 other chairs to tap!

Junior WebMaster:  Learn a skill and enhance your resume!  We’re looking for someone who possesses the “basics” (or is an ambitious, computer proficient learner interested in learning the basics).  Though helpful to have a basic understanding of HTML and MS Frontpage, this is not critical.  If anyone has more advanced web programming experience, this would aid us in efforts to bring the CFN website to new levels.

Contribute to Ad Hoc Projects

Maybe this isn't your year to run something, so here's a quick list of skills that we need to tap from time-to-time.  Can you help?

  • Web research – monthly area (kids) events listing

  • Flyers / graphics – help develop CFN brochure

  • Posting flyers around town

  • Writing / editing

  • Shopping for events (we'll reimburse!)

  • Baking

  • Web Programming (see great opportunity in section above!)

We hope you value CFN enough that you'll take the time to raise your hand and learn more about a particular position. We need to hear from you, so please step up and give back so that CFN may continue to grow and thrive!!

Please contact concordfamilyntwk@yahoo.com for more information on these positions or if you are interested in volunteering.

Dad and Me Coordinator:  Looking for a fun outing over the weekends?  Moms: excited to have Dad and Kid’s get some Q(quality)T, while you get some Q(quiet)Time??  Several members have expressed interest in organizing Dad & Me outings.  Some ideas include:  a tour of Nashoba Bakery in West Concord, Make your own Pizza (and stay for lunch!), a tour of Fenway Park, and taking a train ride from W. Concord to Concord Depot to buy ice cream (or, from Concord Depot to W. Concord to visit a local eatery).  Other ideas out there? ... let's hear 'em!  To make these events happen, we need volunteers to organize them!  If you are interested in organizing a CFN Father-Child Event (we'll help, rest assured), please e-mail concordfamilyntwk@yahoo.com.

Dad’s Night Out Hosts:  We would love to start offering DNO events throughout the year.  If you’re a CFN dad (or know of one!) who would like to meet other dads in your community, this is a great opportunity to do so!  DNO events that other Family Networks have found successful include: hosting a poker night (or Texas Hold ‘em tournament), meeting at a local restaurant/bar for drinks, watching the Red Sox or other sporting event at a local bar or getting a group together to go to a game.  If you’d like to host one of these events, or have another idea for a DNO event that you’d like to host, please e-mail concordfamilyntwk@yahoo.com

Mom’s Night Out Hosts:  MNO events are held on a monthly basis throughout the year at restaurants and various other locations.  Hosts for these events change each month, and opportunities to do so are open to all CFN moms.  Do you have a fun idea for a Mom’s Night Out?  As an MNO host, you get to pick the event, location and a date that fits your schedule!  Some suggested venues for upcoming events include Vincenzo’s, Hana Mizuki Japanese Steak House and the Acton Bowladrome.  If willing to host an MNO event in your home, there is a world of fun and creative options at your fingertips – e.g., Potluck Dinner, Stampin’ Up Party, Scrapbooking Party, Pampered Chef Party, Tupperware Party, Usborne Book Party, Ladies’ Poker Night or a Board Game Night.  We’d love to hear any suggestions for MNO events you’d like to host!  Please e-mail lynnmorel@yahoo.com for more information.

Coordinators for New CFN Programs:  CFN Programs are events/activities that are offered to members on an ongoing basis throughout the year.  Currently, CFN has an active Book Club, several playgroups and monthly Mom’s Night Out events.  Over the next year, we would love to start new programs for CFN Members, such as following:

§         Monthly/Bimonthly Story and Craft Hour Events

§         Walking group (possibly with strollers and/or slow bike/trike riders)

§         Program for Working Parents

If you would be interested in coordinating one of these programs, or have an idea for another program that you’d like to coordinate, we’d love to hear it!  Please e-mail concordfamilyntwk@yahoo.com Remember, being a program coordinator can simply mean recruiting other members to host these events and overseeing the program.

Event Chairs: Members of the CFN Board have already volunteered to chair the top seven annual CFN events (Halloween Party, Holiday Party, Valentine Party, Spring Egg Hunt, the New Baby Event, Kindergarten Popsicle Party and Fire Truck Wash), but we are always looking for dedicated volunteers willing to help co-chair.  Also, we’ve also heard a number of other great ideas for events (e.g., Hebert's Candy Camp, a kids stuff tag sale, a trip to see the Lowell Spinners play, Miniature Golf, etc.).  If you are willing to chair one of these events, or have another event idea that you’d like to organize, we’d love to hear about it!  Please e-mail concordfamilyntwk@yahoo.com

Event Volunteers: In addition to Event Chairs, most events need people to help with smaller tasks (e.g., set up, clean up, buy/bake refreshments, pick up supplies, buy/prepare crafts) to ensure its success.  As events are being planned, chairs are asked to make a list of their volunteer needs and to post this on the website and e-newsletter.  If you are planning to attend a certain event, please consider accepting one of these volunteer tasks.  Every helping hand counts!

Community Service Coordinator:  CFN is very much interested in giving back to our community and helping those less fortunate than ourselves.  To help CFN members with similar goals, we would love to find someone to coordinate volunteer events and donation drives (e.g., winter coats for the homeless, children's equipment and clothing for Cradles to Crayons and used bikes for Bikes not Bombs).  Another possible role for this coordinator would be recruit volunteers to make home-baked meals or run small errands for CFN Members who have just had a baby or are ill.  If interested in becoming our Community Service Coordinator, please e-mail concordfamilyntwk@yahoo.com.

Preschool Liaisons:  This easy, but very important, volunteer opportunity is designed to increase awareness of CFN among Concord families.  We are looking for members with children who attend local preschools and would be willing to distribute information about CFN (e.g., by putting flyers in parent mailboxes and/or on parent bulletin boards) and to just be a contact person for other families at the preschool who might have questions about our network.  If interested, please e-mail concordfamilyntwk@yahoo.com and let us know the name of your child's preschool.  Note: We are also interested in Elementary School Liaisons and Liaisons for Child Care Centers serving infants and toddlers.

Website Technical Support: Someone to answer questions and provide limited support to the webmaster of this website.  Please e-mail richnmel1987@msn.com if you can help.

Post / Distribute Publicity Flyers: We could always use help in spreading the word about CFN and CFN-sponsored events to Concord area families with young children who are not currently part of our network.  For a general flyer or brochure about CFN, please e-mail concordfamilynetwork.org.  For event flyers, please see our events page and click where instructed to do so.  Flyers may be posted on community bulletin boards and/or hand to neighbors and friends who might be interested.  For more information on publicity efforts, e-mail Carolyn Wilkins.

We greatly appreciate any help you can provide.  Together we can contribute to the success of the Concord Family Network!!!
